چکیده

Miniaturized, wireless instrumentation is now a reality and this paper describes development of such a system to monitor crack response. Comparison of environmental (long-term) and blast-induced (dynamic) crack width changes in residential structures has lead to a new approach to monitoring and controlling construction vibrations. A low power consumption potentiometer displacement transducer and a short communication duty cycle allow this system to operate up to a year with AA size batteries. The system described won third place honors in the 2005 Crossbow Smart Dust Challenge, which represented the best executable ideas for wireless sensor networks. (Kotowsky and Ozer, 2005)

Quasi Random Deployment Strategy for Reliable Communication Backbones in Wireless Sensor Networks

Topology construction and topology maintenance are significant sub-problems of topology control. Spanning tree based algorithms for topology control are basically transmission range based type construction algorithms. The construction of an effective backbone, however, is indirectly related to the placement of nodes. Also, the dependence of network reliability on the communication path undertak...

Control of Construction Vibrations with an Autonomous Crack Comparometer

Concern over construction vibration-induced cracking has led to development of a new approach to vibration monitoring, an autonomous crack comparometer (ACC). This paper describes sensor performance and chronicles the first steps in the development of this concept, illustrated in Figure 1. A single sensor measures both weather-induced micrometer changes in crack width and those produced by habi...

Processing Digital Image for Measurement of Crack Dimensions in Concrete

The elements of the concrete structure are most frequently affected by cracking. Crack detection is essential to ensure safety and performance during its service life. Cracks do not have a regular shape, in order to achieve the exact dimensions of the crack; the general mathematical formulae are by no means applicable. The authors have proposed a new method which aims to measure the crack dimen...

Robust Measurement Feedback Control of an Inclined Cable

Considering the partial differential equation model of the vibrations of an inclined cable, we are interested in applying robust control technics to stabilize the system with measurement feedback when it is submitted to external disturbances. This paper focuses indeed on the construction of a standard linear infinite dimensional state space system and an H∞ feedback control of vibrations with p...

The Dc Electrical Potential Method for the Measumment of Fretting Cracks

As fretting fatigue cracks are initiated at an early stage of life, the fretting fracture process is dominated by the stable growth of cracks. Hence the measurement of crack length is very important. This paper demonstrates the suitability of the DC potential drop technique for the measurement of fretting cracks. A calibration has been established for monitoring crack growth in BS L65 copper al...
